A few months ago me and my friends are looking for a weekend getaway where we could also join a running event since the four of us have not been to Langkawi we decided to sign up for Runkawi Half Marathon 2018 which was held last July 14, 2018, two of us signed up for the 10k run while the other two signed up for the 21k. We decided to sign up for the 10k only because we have a major race on August which is the Aguila Ironman 70.3-Asia Pacific Championship.

Runkawi half marathon 2018 is a new sports tourism initiative to promote the beautiful island of Langkawi through a mass run. Runkawi aims to cater all runners who wants to run in an exotic location within the convenience of a weekend getaway.
After we arrive in Langkawi we headed directly to Century Langkasuka Resort for our race pack collection then we went for a short sightseeing. A trip to Langkawi is not complete without visiting the skybridge and taking the cable car.
The next day before our race we did a shake out run in the morning from our hotel to the starting point. My friend told me to do a sub-one in the race and I just laugh about it but the idea is tempting though I feel not ready doing it in an official race.
Race event has come and as we pass the starting line I told myself to do a steady pace just like when Im joining Running Department’s run. I had a good start and the sub one came into my mind so the goal is to run a six-min. pace. The route for the 10k is totally flat which is easy for the legs, the next thing I knew I am nearing the finish line and was able to cross it more than my target time 55 min and 54 sec. We stayed in the event area to wait for our friends who did the 21k so while waiting we asked the race committee for our official time and I am happy with my standing.
The next day after the race we visited other famous landmark in Langkawi. The main highlight of my experience in Runkawi was being 4th place in the Women’s International Category which I only found out a week after the race when they posted the names of the winners in their facebook page. Although it would be nice to know the feeling of being up on stage to be recognized the committee has reached out for the winners who were not able to claim their prize. Last Aug. 19, 2018 since one of the committee visited Singapore she personally handed me my prize and so I joke to my friends that we should visit Malaysia again soon.
